Terms of Service
Plain English summary: Use DocuRead for legitimate purposes. You own your documents — we never sell or share them. We provide the service as-is and may modify or discontinue it with 30 days notice. If we shut down, you'll get time to export your files and paid users get refunded. Keep your own backups of important documents.

1. Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using DocuRead ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you disagree with any part of these terms, you may not access the Service.
The Service is operated by Cambridge Holdings, LLC ("we", "us", or "our").
2. Description of Service
DocuRead is a document management and search service that allows you to:
- Upload and store documents (PDFs, images, scanned files)
- Extract and search text from documents using OCR
- Use AI-powered features to ask questions about your documents
- Organize documents into folders
3. Your Account
To use DocuRead, you must create an account. You are responsible for:
- Maintaining the security of your account credentials
- All activities that occur under your account
- Notifying us immediately of any unauthorized access
You must be at least 13 years old to use this Service.
4. Your Content
You own your documents. We do not claim any ownership rights to the documents you upload to DocuRead.
By uploading content, you grant us a limited license to:
- Store your documents on our infrastructure
- Process documents to extract text (OCR)
- Display documents back to you
- Create backups for service reliability
This license exists solely to provide you with the Service and terminates when you delete your content or account.
5. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use DocuRead to:
- Upload illegal content or content you don't have rights to
- Store malware, viruses, or malicious code
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to other users' data
- Use automated systems to overload our infrastructure
- Resell or redistribute the Service without permission
- Violate any applicable laws or regulations
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
6. Subscription and Payment
DocuRead offers free and paid subscription tiers. For paid subscriptions:
- Billing occurs monthly or annually as selected
- Payments are processed securely through Stripe
- You may cancel anytime; access continues until the end of the billing period
- No refunds are provided for partial billing periods, except as described below
We reserve the right to change pricing with 30 days notice. Existing subscribers will be honored at their current rate through the end of their billing period.
Refunds upon service discontinuation: If we discontinue the Service entirely, active paid subscribers will receive a prorated refund for any unused portion of their prepaid subscription period.
7. Data and Privacy
Your use of DocuRead is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect your data.
8. Service Availability and Discontinuation
We strive to maintain high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to:
- Scheduled maintenance (we'll provide advance notice when possible)
- Emergency repairs
- Circumstances beyond our control
Right to modify or discontinue: We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or permanently discontinue the Service (or any part of it) at any time, with or without cause. For permanent discontinuation, we will provide at least 30 days advance notice via email to registered users.
We shall not be liable to you or any third party for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service.
9. Disclaimer of Warranties
The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
We do not warrant that:
- The Service will meet your specific requirements
- The Service will be uninterrupted or error-free
- OCR results will be 100% accurate
- AI-generated responses will be correct or complete
10. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Cambridge Holdings, LLC shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to:
- Loss of data or documents
- Loss of profits or business opportunities
- Service interruptions
Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
11. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Cambridge Holdings, LLC from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from:
- Your use of the Service
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any third-party rights
- Content you upload to the Service
12. Termination and Data Export
Termination by us: We may terminate or suspend your account at any time for violation of these Terms, with or without notice.
Termination by you: You may terminate your account at any time through the account settings or by contacting us.
Service discontinuation: If we elect to discontinue the Service entirely, we will:
- Provide at least 30 days advance notice via email
- Make a data export feature available so you can download your documents during the notice period
- Issue prorated refunds to active paid subscribers
- Cease all billing immediately upon the discontinuation announcement
Upon any termination or discontinuation:
- Your right to use the Service ceases at the end of the notice period (or immediately for Terms violations)
- We will delete your data within 90 days after the termination date
- We have no obligation to retain or provide access to your data after the notice period ends
We strongly recommend maintaining your own backups of important documents. DocuRead is not intended to be your sole copy of any document.
13. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will provide notice of material changes by:
- Posting the updated Terms on this page
- Updating the "Last updated" date
- Sending email notification for significant changes
Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new Terms.
14. Governing Law
These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois, United States, without regard to conflict of law provisions.
15. Dispute Resolution
Any disputes arising from these Terms or the Service shall be resolved through binding arbitration in accordance with the rules of the American Arbitration Association. You agree to waive any right to a jury trial or class action.
